Non-GMO, rBST Free & Grass-Fed Policies
I’m Phil Meers. My wife Therese and I created Viking Icelandic Yogurt and we wanted to share with you our Non-GMO and rBST free policies as well as our thought process in developing our yogurt.
We developed Viking Icelandic Yogurt shortly after we were engaged with the goal of creating a high protein, low sugar, non-GMO, and non-fat yogurt made with milk from grass-fed cows from family farms that would help us and our new family get the most out of every day. Our promise to you is that we will not ship a single cup of yogurt that we would not serve to our family and know that they will feel better off for having eaten it.
Non-GMO by origin policy
We adhere to a Non-GMO by origin policy and all of our ingredients are sourced GMO free. This means that we do not use GMOs (genetically modified organisms) in our yogurt. GMOs are plants or animals whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering. We are able to trace where our ingredients come from and require our suppliers to have this same traceability.
No rBST
We do not and will not use milk that has come from cows treated with rBST (recombinant bovine somatotropin) or other synthetic hormones meant to artificially increase the amount of milk a cow produces. By law, the FDA requires us to inform our customers that their research indicates that rBST does not impact the quality of milk in either safety or quality.
However, we believe that the use of rBST or other artificial hormones to increase milk production is morally wrong.
Grass-Fed cows:
Our love & respect for cows
All of our cows are all grass-fed and live on family farms. Why? Because I grew up on a farm south of Chicago. I spent a lot of time in the barn where there used to be cows and in the fields where they used to graze. I always wanted cows. Maybe it was because cows are such great animals or maybe because without the cows, I had to mow acre after acre of “lawn” every week!
The important part is I take great pride in my family raising dairy cows for over 100 years. We take the health of the cows supplying our milk seriously and hold the farms we source our milk from accountable for the health and wellbeing of our bovine friends.
We painstakingly ensure that our yogurt meets all non-GMO requirements at both the state and federal level.
We are a family company and we will make sure that every cup of yogurt we produce meets the highest standards because we eat it ourselves and share it with our family.
